Pakistan Muslim League-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif on Thursday directed the party leaders to exercise extreme caution in making any statements related to the case of Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed.

“The meeting focused on the implications of Faiz Hameed’s recent arrest,” said the sources close to the development. The sources while quoting Nawaz Sharif said that the PML-N top brass also focused on the situation arising out of the arrest of the former Spy chief.

“The pressure  falling upon the government as well as the establishment after the arrest of Faiz Hameed was also deliberated,” they said.
The meeting took place at the moment when three additional retired military officers were placed under military custody in connection with the Field General Court Martial proceedings against Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid.

The Inter-Services Public Relations had said that these retired officers were detained due to actions deemed detrimental to military discipline.
“Nawaz Sharif urged the party leaders to refrain from making emotional statements and affirmed the PML-N’s decision to support both the government and the establishment robustly,” they said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Hamza Shehbaz, Rana Sanaullah, and Salman Shehbaz also took part in the meeting.

Federal Ministers including Ahsan Iqbal, Atta Tarar, Owais Lagari, Khawaja Asif, Ali Pervez Malik and Bilal Azhar Kiyani, as well as party figures Pervez Rashid, Marriyum Aurangzeb, and Rashid Mahmood Langrial, were also present.

The sources said that the PML-N also discussed a proposed constitutional amendment concerning the extension of judges’ tenures.
Besides that, they said that the meeting considered a proposal to impose a ban on rallies and demonstrations in Islamabad and Punjab to ensure law and order.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed attendees on Parliament’s role in addressing the ongoing political and judicial crisis and provided updates on government discussions with its allies.

He also offered insights into the situation in Balochistan including efforts to maintain peace amid ongoing protests.
“The PM also briefed Nawaz Sharif about the ties with the allies parties,” they said.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar updated the meeting on the national economy and negotiations with the International Monetary Fund.
