The Walled City of Lahore Authority’s cultural troupe captivated a full house at the Zia Mohyeddin Theater of the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) on Thursday with their enchanting performances. Titled ‘Renewing Glory,’ the event showcased a rich tapestry of classical and folk traditions from our cultural heritage.
The evening commenced with a lively Red Carpet event attended by dignitaries and celebrities, setting the stage for an evening of cultural celebration. Former senator and NAPA board member Javed Jabbar welcomed the audience, emphasizing NAPA’s dedication to preserving and promoting performing arts in all their forms. A highlight of the evening was a compelling presentation by Kamran Lashari, Director-General of WCLA, detailing the organization’s efforts in restoring the historic Walled City of Lahore. NAPA chairman Syed Jawaid Iqbal honored Lashari with a NAPA memento in recognition of his contributions.
The performances began with a mesmerizing kathak piece by Zikria and Jessica Iqbal, a father-daughter duo whose artistry left the audience spellbound. Jessica also delivered a captivating solo performance. Following this, Raja Mughal and his team presented a breathtaking bharat natyam piece, showcasing their mastery of the classical dance form. Mughal later performed a solo piece that further highlighted his skill and grace. The program continued with lively folk songs, engaging storytelling, and vibrant dances presented by Fazal Jutt and his group, adding a colorful dimension to the evening.
The final performance featured the renowned Saain Abbas and his dhol and shunk players, bringing the evening to a crescendo of rhythm and energy. The audience responded enthusiastically throughout the show, showering the performers with applause and appreciation.
The event concluded with a dinner reception, allowing guests and artists to mingle and celebrate the cultural exchange facilitated by NAPA and WCLA.
