Acting Chief Jamiat-e-Islami Karachi MunamZafar Khan, strongly condemned Karachi Electric for prolonged and unannounced load shedding, labeling it as a grave injustice to the people of Karachi. He warned that if the situation does not improve, the public may resort to extensive protests, holding the government, NEPRA, and Karachi Electric accountable. Speaking amidst scorching temperatures and heatwaves, Khan highlighted the dire consequences of the ongoing load shedding, especially amid rising temperatures. He urged the authorities to take immediate action to alleviate the suffering of Karachiites.
MunamZafar Khan ridiculed MQM’s statement against Karachi Electric and demanded the revocation of its license, emphasizing that Jamiat-e-Islami has always been the true voice of Karachiites against Karachi Electric’s mismanagement. He recalled their consistent struggle against Karachi Electric’s malpractices, spanning various platforms including roads, courts, and NEPRA.
The Jamiat-e-Islami leader reiterated their demand for the cancellation of Karachi Electric’s license and its nationalization. He called for a forensic audit of the company’s finances and demanded compensation for Karachiites for the losses incurred due to Karachi Electric’s negligence.
Referring to NEPRA’s penalty on Karachi Electric in the April 13 hearing, Khan stressed NEPRA’s responsibility to protect consumers’ rights and ensure that penalties are imposed on electricity thieves and bill defaulters without burdening Karachiites.
The callous attitude of Karachi Electric, especially during the sweltering heat, has raised concerns among Karachiites, who are already grappling with various challenges. Jamiat-e-Islami vows to continue its struggle until Karachiites’ grievances are addressed and justice is served.
