Islamabad, Pakistan weather update; widespread rain, snowfall likely

ISLAMABAD – Widespread rains, snowfall over the hills and isolated hailstorms are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Sunday evening/night, Monday and Tuesday.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave prevails over southwestern Balochistan. It will likely grip most upper parts of Pakistan today.

Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over hills are likely in Balochistan, Potohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas on Sunday evening/night, Monday and Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding in local nullahs of Balochistan. Heavy rain with isolated heavy snowfall may cause the closure of roads in Murree, Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli.

Wind-thunderstorm/hailstorms may damage loose structures like electric poles and solar panels. Tourists are advised not to travel unnecessarily, while farmers are advised to remain cautious about their crops.

Islamabad’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 08-10 degrees Celsius on Monday and 09-11 C on Tuesday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 12-14 C on Monday and 13-15 C on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in the northern parts. However, rain wind-thunderstorms occurred in southeastern Balochistan.

Leh remained the coldest place in the country where the temperature dropped 09 C below freezing.

In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 08 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 83 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 12 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 68 per cent.
