Sindh Caretaker Minister for Health, Social Welfare, and Public Health Engineering Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz inaugurated the four-day 8th International Symposium Cum-Training Course on Molecular Medicine and Drug Research at the Prof. Salimuz Zaman Siddiqui Auditorium, organized by the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi, on Monday. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the provincial minister said that this major science event was indeed an important step forward towards a better understanding of diseases at the molecular level and towards developing safe and effective drugs against prevailing disorders.
The provincial ministry of health will provide all possible support to Dr. Panjwani Center to focus more on the understanding of diseases at the molecular level, he maintained. There was a dire need to invest more money in the areas where new research centers and scholars could be created, he added. The presence of a large number of scientists from various countries at the international symposium here in the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, is really phenomenal for new Pakistani scholars in terms of benefiting from the learning experiences of the foreign experts, he observed.
It is pertinent to mention here that Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi Prof. Khalid Mehmood Iraqi, Prof. Atta-ur Rahman, Professor Emeritus and former Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Prof. M. Iqbal Choudhary, the Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH, and UNESCO CHAIR on Medicinal and Bio-Organic Natural Product Chemistry ICCBS, Prof. Farzana Shaheen, Director of the ICCBS, Chairman Husein Ebrahim Jamal Foundation Aziz Latif , Chairperson Dr. Panjwani Memorial Trust Ms. Nadira Panjwani, and Prof. Asmat Salim also expressed their views in the inaugural ceremony.
