11 dead, 1,005 injured in 892 road traffic crashes in Punjab

The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responded to 892 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours, said spokesman for 1122 on Thursday. He said that in these RTCs 11 people died, whereas 1005 were injured. Out of this, 578 people were seriously injured who were shifted to different hospitals. Whereas, 427 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site by Rescue Medical Teams thus reducing the burden of Hospitals.
The majority (65%) involved Motorbikes, therefore effective enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline is essential to reduce this increasing number of Road Traffic Crashes.
Further the analysis showed that 410 drivers, 32 underage drivers, 143 pedestrians, and 463 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes.
The statistics show that 225 RTCs were reported in Lahore which affected 254 persons placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list followed by 78 in Faisalabad with 84 victims and at third Multan with 56 RTCs and 59 victims.
The details further reveal that 1016 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 796 males & 220 females, while the age group of the victims shows that 213 were under 18 year of age, 500 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 303 victims were reported above 40 years of age. According to the data 741 motorbikes, 112 auto-rickshaws, 105 motorcars, 30 vans, 13 passenger buses, 27 trucks and 109 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in aforesaid road traffic accidents.
