Engr Naeemur Rehman sees nefarious agenda against development of Karachi behind Zardari-Tessori activism to merge various groups of the MQM
Condemns action against peaceful protesters in Gawadar, dubs it insane move in the backdrop of Balochistan unrest, and suggests those in the corridors of powers to come up with a durable solution to the core issue in Gawadar
Says Elan-e-Karachi — the party’s future course of action for education, politics and social environment in Karachi — to be announced on January 8 at Bag-e-Jinnah
KARACHI: December 30: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that Asif Ali Zardari and Kamran Tessori brokered merger of various factions and splinter groups of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was a political move by the Pakistan People Party and was aimed at dooming the future of Karachi.
The JI leader expressed these views while addressing a press conference held at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters, here on Friday. He was flanked by JI leaders Osama Razi, Raja Arif Sultan, Engr Saleem Azhar and Sohaib Ahmed.
Speaking on the occasion, the JI leader said that merger among various factions of a political party is a due right of the party but the unnatural forced merger of various groups of the MQM was a different case. He said that PPP supreme leader Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori were brokering a deal for the merger and their active involvement unveils the nefarious agenda behind the so-called merger — bound to reverse in the near future.
He said that the political move was played to plunder the resources of the economic nerve of the country. He added that the next step, if the merger took place, would be depriving Karachiites of a very bright future, due rights, development and progress for the sake of monetary benefits and perks to key leaders of the MQM and the PPP leadership.
He quoted some reports as saying that some key officials at the K-Electric — a powerful mafia in Karachi —and some retired officers were playing a nefarious role under the Zardari-Tessori doctrine. This is enmity to Karachi, he added.
“Why didn’t you put forward the condition of an empowered local government setup in Karachi at the time of regime change, when you were bargaining for ministries and perks,” he asked the MQM leadership. He further said that the MQM wants to restore the system of free fuel supply and extortion money to its key leaders.
“What did the city get as a result of MQM’s ministries and governorship during the past three and half decades in the Sindh province,” he asked. The city got no new or upgradation of water supply projects during the past 17 years despite the fact that the MQM enjoyed the mayor ship of the city for twice, he highlighted.
He further said that Karachiites have seen the conduct of all stakeholders and those who join hands with the PPP will be rejected by them.
