Floral wreath laid at Sowar Hussain’s NH grave

Commander Rawalpindi Logistics Area Major General Amjad Khattak laid wreath at the Mausoleum of the Pride of Pakistan Armoured Corps, Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed, NH. Born on 18 June 1949 at Dhok Pir Bakhsh (now renamed as Dhok Muhammad Husain Janjua), he was enrolled into a glorious Regiment of Armoured Corps, 20 Lancers as a driver on 3rd September 1966. Made responsible for supplying ammunition to the tanks and recoil-less rifles, he took an active part during 1971 Indo-Pak war at Shakargarh sector.

After volunteering to proceed on fighting petrol to fetch information about the Indian Army, he spotted enemy tanks close to a minefield near the village Harar Khurd. At his own initiative, he directed accurate fire of recoilless rifles. Due to his fearless actions and indomitable courage, he single handedly proved instrumental in the destruction of 16 Indian tanks.

During this battle, he received a burst of machine-gun on his chest and embraced martyrdom on 10 December 1971. He was posthumously awarded the highest miliary gallantry award of Pakistan, “Nishan-e-Haider”. His unit was redesignated as “20 Lancers Haidri”. During interview, his son Munawar revealed that his two sons have recently applied for commission in Pakistan Army to commemorate the valour and courage displayed by their grandfather. No doubt, Pakistan’s security is in safe hands of such brave sons of motherland.
