Senior doctors including Gynecologists have observed international Fis Fistula day by Fistula centre Abbottabad which was largely attended by doctors, paramedics & other health personals here on other day.
Professor Dr. Aziz-un-nisa Abbasi in charge fistula centre Abbottabad while addressing the gathering told that an estimated 2 million women in developing countries suffer from this problem in which patient got damage to urinary bladder during difficult delivery or gynaecological operations by untrained gynaecologists and surgeons.
She advised the Patients develop dribbling of urine all the time that Repair operation should be performed by trained / skilled gynaecologists other wise failure rate is quite high leaving the woman to live with this crippling problem for whole life.
Recognising the gravity of the condition UNFPA and Fistula Foundation celebrates this day on 23rd may every year. Purpose of this campaign is public awareness to end fistula by year 2030.
Abbottabad fistula centre was established in 2012 in collaboration of PNFWH and International Fistula Foundation. During this period many women benefited free of cost operations by team of renowned gynecologists.
She also shared the Key message for 2023 international fistula day celebration is to end obstetrics fistula by Promoting universal access to quality care, Public awareness for prevention of obstetrics fistula, Training of midwives and traditional birth attendants for safe delivery, Proper training of gynaecologists for safe gynae operations.
