Chief Operating Officer of Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), DIG Kamran Khan has surveillance cameras of private housing authorities in Lahore are being linked with the PSCA and the provincial government has approved this keeping in view the increase in population and need to expand its surveillance capability. He said the step will help to control crime and maintain law and order in the city.
He stated this during a meeting with the representatives of private housing societies, held at PSCA Headquarters, Qurban Police Lines Lahore on Tuesday.
The purpose of the meeting was to implement standard policy guidelines approved by LDA for integration of the surveillance system with PPIC3 Centre Lahore. Chaired by COO PSCA Muhammad Kamran Khan, all notable housing societies’ representatives attended the meeting.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority will share security audits and experiences with private housing societies. PSCA proposes to further enhance the safety and security of the public throughout the city by integrating surveillance systems of LDA approved societies with Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication Centre (PPIC3) Lahore through dedicated Optical Fiber Cable.
The Chief Operating Officer PSCA Muhammad Kamran Khan said that it shall centralize the data gathering and improve police response time along with investigation. This advancement will enhance public safety and security all over the city. It will not hamper current functioning of private housing societies’ surveillance system and will only be used for crime tracing as and when required by Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), he added.
The routine monitoring, ownership and maintenance will solely be the responsibility of the respective housing society, said DIG Kamran Khan. Private housing societies also expressed their interest in integration of cameras with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority.
