The University of Karachi and the World Poultry Science Association (WPSA) signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote and impart skill-oriented training and other programs to benefit students and to initiate joint academic activities leading to academic excellence.
The MoU signing ceremony was held here at the KU VC Secretariat on Thursday and KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and President WPSA Waqar Alam inked the MoU documents.
As per the MoU, the KU and WPSA would develop and collaborate on joint academic and industrial cooperation as well as establish a strategic partnership to facilitate bilateral potential between the KU department of physiology and WPSA. On this occasion, the KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi while appreciating the efforts of Chairman, Department of Physiology, Dr Taseer Ahmad Khan, said that we want to create a program that expands students’ education as well as their practical experience.
The chairman physiology department Dr Taseer Khan informed the participants that 45 students have chosen the field of BS Poultry Science which is announced for the first time and the University of Karachi is the 10th university in the country which is offering this course in Pakistan.
He mentioned that Industrial Advisory Board is also set up in the University of Karachi under which the needs of industries can be better met. Meanwhile, the in-charge of the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization, University of Karachi, Dr Asma Tabassum, said that we want students to do projects and research in the last year of the program which is in line with the needs of the industry.
Meanwhile, the President of the World Poultry Science Association Waqar Alam said digitalization of the degree program is the need of the hour. “In this age of innovation, poultry farming is also facing new requirements. We will fully support Karachi University in this regard.”
General Secretary WPSA, Dr Munawar Hussain said that poultry science is an important discipline that can provide students with future business opportunities, including jobs. We will also provide internships to students.
