Sri Lanka visit: PM Imran stresses strong trade links for regional prosperity

COLOMBO – Prime Minister Imran Khan inviting Sri Lanka business community to invest in CPEC projects in Pakistan said that strong trade ties among sub-continent countries could bring prosperity in the region.

The premier, who is in Sri Lanka on two-day official visit, was addressing the first Pakistan-Sri Lanka Trade and Investment Conference in Colombo.

He said that the way forward for the sub-continent is to resolve issues and boost trade ties, adding that Kashmir is the only dispute between Pakistan and India.

He stressed that the Kashmir issue should be resolved as per the UN resolutions, adding that dialogue is only solution to end the differences.

Imran Khan said, “Our problems are subservient to trade and investment”. I joined the politics with the dream of developing a welfare state and eliminating poverty”.

Inviting Sri Lankan businessmen to invest in Pakistan, he said that the country has improved its ranking in ease of doing business. He said that Pakistan has introduced changes in various policies to attract investment.

By joining, the Sri Lankan businessman could get access to Central Asia, he said, adding that special incentives have been offered on investment in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones.
