Sindh Minister for Local Government and Information Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that the federal government has been constantly violating Article 158 of the Constitution. Sindh supplies 68% of Pakistan’s total gas, but today gas is scarce in the province of Sindh. In a statement issued from his office on Friday, Nasir Hussain Shah said that Sindh brings 2200 MMCFD gas into the national mainstream and Sindh needs 1700 MMCFD gas for its own consumption.. But Sindh gets 900 to 1000 MMFDC gas in response to 2200 MMCFD which it generates itself and supply it to Centre. The provincial minister said that the federation was not meeting the demands of our province ,due to which the gas crisis in the province including Karachi is getting worst. The federal government is deliberately not giving Sindh the right to its legitimate gas. I ask the federal minister to stop blaming us. And answer what is the reason that despite having gas reserves in Sindh, Sindh is not getting gas? We want to tell the federation that the citizens of Sindh do not want expensive LNG, give Sindh’s gas to Sindh because under Article 158 of the Constitution, the first right to provincial resources belongs to the province where production is taking place. If the province’s needs are met, the rest of the gas can be given to other provinces. He further said that the federal government throws the rubble of its failure on Sindh. Tomorrow the federal ministers may claim that the Sindh government is responsible for the failure of the federal government. Raising electricity and gas prices has become a hobby of the federal government. No one else but the incompetent federal energy Minister Omar Ayub is responsible for the power and gas crisis in Karachi.
