Zarb-i-Azb inspires confidence in investors

IMPROVED security environment as a result of Zarb-i-Azb operation has started paying dividends for the country especially on the economic and investment fronts as foreign investors are increasingly expressing their confidence for making investments particularly in major urban cities of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. According to a recently conducted survey, nearly ninety percent of the entrepreneurs are of the view that the general threats to business has reduced as compared to the situation prior to August 2013.
Just three years ago, the worst law and order situation and unchecked violence and target killings had inflicted heavy losses to business and economy especially in the country’s economic hub Karachi which not only dried up the foreign investment but even big companies winded up their businesses in the country. In that precarious environment, the flight of capital to other lucrative places was very much understandable but it is heartening to note now that the Zarb-i-Azb operation which has almost broken the back of terrorists and security situation stands improved in major cities, both the domestic and foreign investors are again seeing Pakistan as a destination for investment. We expect that the government as well as the relevant security agencies will not relax but continue their efforts to make the country cradle of peace and investment. Though government has made endeavours to attract foreign investment and the CPEC is a classic example of it but to attract the maximum number of entrepreneurs from foreign lands, the government needs to further simplify the procedures and grant more concessions and incentives to them. Coupled with this, focus should also be laid on the image building of the country through influential people who enjoy repute and stature at the international level. These reputed people in fact while using their clout could serve as investment ambassadors for the country. Heavy responsibility also rests with our ambassadors to play a proactive role for promoting Pakistani Brand and Pakistani potential in countries of their deputation.
