Pakistan Cricket team’s chief selector Inzamam ul Haq has said that Younis Khan’s performance in the upcoming series against Australia will be key for Pakistan.
“Younis Khan’s return to form is much important for the team, it is good to see him scoring some runs in the warm up match,” Inzamam said.
“His performance in the three match series will be the key. His runs will not be for himself only but also for other players.
If he sticks around then it will motivate other batsmen as well,” said the national chief selector.
The former captain and one of the most prolific batsmen produced by Pakistan also brushed aside talks of replacing Misbah ul Haq after the Australia tour.
“This is not the right time to talk about what would be Misbah’s future after the tour,” Inzamam replied when a journalist asked if Pakistan should continue with Misbah ul Haq despite his not-so-good recent form.
“There is no need to put him under any undue pressure just before the start of this important series. Pakistan has always struggled in Australia and this is the time that we must back all the players for the tour,” he added,
According to Inzamam, a senior player like Misbah ul Haq should not be told by anyone else and the player him-self should decide about the future.
He also expressed satisfaction on the performance of Mohammad Aamir during Pakistan’s warm up match against Cricket Australia and hoped that the left-arm pacer will continue this form in the Test series against Kangaroos.
“It is good to see him bowling with great line and taking wickets. He was very impressive in Pakistan’s warm up match and I hope that he will display the same lethality with the ball in upcoming three-match Test series.
“But, it would be unfair if we demand him to bowl the way he used to bowl five years ago.
Give him some time to completely regain his rhythm before questioning his comeback and performance,” said the chief selector.—APP
