Yasir, Aqeel, two others reach CAS Open Tennis Q-finals

Peshawar—Pakistan No. 1 Aqeel Khan, Yasir Khan, Mudassir Murtaza, Muzammil Murtaza, Usman Rafique, Muhammad Abid, Heera Ashaq and Shehzad Khan took berth into the quarter-finals of the 35th Chief of the Air Staff Tennis Championship being played here at Officer Mess on Sunday.
Pakistan No. 1 Adeel Khan who is also defending the title for the 12th consecutive years, defeated promising Barkat Ullah by 6-2 and 6-2 in a thrilling match. Barkat Ullah have some key shorts against his strong rival and Davis Cupper Aqeel Khan but overall Aqeel Khan dominated the proceedings.
In the second pre-quarter-final Muhammad Murtaza defeated Abbas Khan by 6-1 and 6-4 to reach the quarter-final. Muhammad Murtaza dominated the match and did not give much time to Abbas Khan to settle down.
Yasir Khan outclassed Usman Ejab by 6-4 and 6-2, Muzammil Murtaza defeated Shahid Afridi by 6-3 and 6-3. Yasir Khan, who recently won the Governor KP Cup by defeating Aqeel Khan in the final, his elder brother, was in great form. Yasir Khan took the set by 6-3 and 6-3 by giving no chance to Muzammil to strike back.
Usman Rafique faced tough resistance against Jhangir Khan by 7-5 (6-6) and 6-4, Muhammad Abid beat Shahzad Khan of PAF by 6-1 and 6-2, Heera Ashaq beat Haris Irfan Ul Haq by 6-1 and 6-1 while Shehzad Khan beat Shaheen Mehmood by 6-3 and 6-3.
In the Boys Under-18 Haris Irfan-Ul-Haq, Shoaib Khan, Talha Bib Asif, Yousaf Khan, Asad ullah, Saqi Umar, Muazammil Murtaza also reached to the quarter-finals after recording victories against their respective rivals in the pre-quarter-finals.
In the first pre-quarter-finals Haris Irfan-Ul-Haq beat Farhan Ullah by 6-2 and 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals, Shoaib Khan beat Irfan Mughal by 7-5 and 7-5 in a thrilling match, Talha Bib Asif beat Aman Atiwue by 6-2 and 6-4, Yousaf Khan beat Ubaid Ullah by 6-2 and 6-2, Asad Ullah beat Muhammad Abdullah by 6-3 and 6-4, Saqib Umar beat Shakir Ullah by 6-2 and 6-3, Muazammil Murtaza beat Huzaifa A Rehman by 6-1 and 6-2.
In the first pre-quarter-final match of the Under-14 category Shoaib Khan stunned, his strong rival Majid Khan by 4-2 and 4-3, Kashif beat Ubaid Ullah by 4-2 and 4-3, Sami Zaib beat Muhammad Huzaifa Khan by 4-1 and 4-1, Muhammad Abid Ullah beat Adnan Khan by 4-1 and 4-2, Hamid Israr got walk over against Anzala Naeem, the later did not turn up. Hamid Israr beat Bilal Asim by 4-1 and 4-2, Faizan Shahid beat Abdul Hannan by 4-2 and 4-2 and Aqib Umar beat Kamran Khan by 4-1 and 4-1.
