World Habitat Day is observed the world over on 7th October every year, to work for the adequate shelter around the world through some advantageous activities and highlighting the requirement of safe, civilized and inexpensive shelter for the common masses.
It is estimated that 1.6 billion people are living in standard houses, but around 100 million people are homeless. The Day aims at creating awareness about the plight of homeless people, and calls for to providing adequate housing everywhere, bringing beneficial things for them and mobilizing the international conscience for the future generation’s habitat.
It was first, discussed in 1985 and celebrated in the year 1986, for the first time. Today several countries including Pakistan, the USA, UAE, Germany, Japan, Italy and others countries observe this day to ensure sufficient shelter, water, sanitation, good education, health, job prospects and other basic facilities of the people.
