Women empowerment imperative for development of country: Shamim


Karachi—Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Shamim Mumtaz visited Dar-ul-Aman Karachi- Panah Shelter Home, on Sunday.
Secretary Social Welfare Shireen Narijo accompanied her. Member Board of Trustee Panah Shelter Home Justice (R) Majida Rizvi, former provincial caretaker minister Nadira Panjwani, Human Rights activist Uzma Noorani and former CPLC chairman Jameel Yousif received her.
On the occasion Provincial Minister said that society could not progress and prosper until women were given their due rights and added that we have to empower women and bring to an end the injustice with women for real change in society.
In a briefing provincial minister was informed that Dar-ul Amn Karachi was handed over to Panah Trust in 2007 for a period of ten years. The building of Dar-ul- Aman was in a dilapidated condition. However, Trust had spend more than Rs. 30 million on the repaid, renovation of the building.
It was further informed that women stay here for maximum three months as their issues usually resolved. However, women can take shelter until their issues were resolved.—APP
