Weekly inflation up 0.2pc

Islamabad—The weekly inflation for the week ended on June 23, for the combined income group witnessed increase of 0.2 per cent as compared to the previous week. The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 216.71 points against 216.27 points registered in the previous week, according to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) here on Friday. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 1.08 per cent.
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007 2008=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. Meanwhile, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8000 also increased by 0.17 per cent as it went up from 206.67 points in the previous week to 207.02 points in the week under review. As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001 12,000, Rs 12,001 18,000 and 18,001 35,000 increased by 0.18 per cent, 0.2 per cent, 0.21 per cent and 0.22 per cent respectively.
During the week under review average prices of 7 items registered decrease, while that of 14 items increase with the remaining 32 items’ prices unchanged. The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included onions, bananas, garlic, curd, LPG cylinder (11 kg), pulse gram and pulse mash. The items which recorded increase in their average prices included tomatoes, eggs (farm), chicken (farm), bathing soap, rice Irri-6, cigarettes, potatoes, sugar, pulse masoor, pulse moong, wheat flour, wheat, red chilly and vegetable ghee (loose).
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice basmati (broken), bread plain, beef, mutton, milk (fresh), powdered milk, mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (tin), gur, , salt powder (loose), tea, long cloth, shirting, lawn printed, georgette, gents shoes, ladies shoes, electricity charges, gas charges, kerosene oil, firewood whole, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, petrol, Hi Speed Diesel and telephone local call charges.—APP
