The monsoon system is likely to get weaker this month, reducing the chances of rain, which will ultimately prolong drought situation in Sindh and Balochistan, a Meteorological department official said.
He added that the water level would also get af-fected at the Mangla Dam due to less rains.
The weatherman further said El Nino conditions and Indian Ocean dipole will continue to persist in neu-tral phase while the Tibetan high was weaker than normal.
“These conditions will be affecting country’s weather and the monsoon system is likely to go gradually weaker during August, producing less than average rainfall. This will exaggerate prevail-ing drought conditions in parts of Sindh and Ba-lochistan,” he said.
The Met department official said less than average rainfall was expected to occur in the catchment ar-eas of major rivers which may be a matter of great concern, particularly for the Mangla Dam.Giving details, the weatherman said inflow to the Mangla Dam was 28,421 cusecs while the outflow was 10,000 cusecs.
