Attock—Pakistan secured a seat for Regional Councilor of Asia Region in the global elections held at the ‘World Conservation Congress’ in Hawaii. Malik Amin Aslam, elected as Regional Councilor for 2016-2020 term by an electorate Consisting of over 1200 members of IUCN-including leading global environmental NGOS, Experts as well as 193 Governments. He has previously served a term as regional councilor and Global Vice President of IUCN (International Union for Conservation Of Nature) from 2012-2016. Malik Amin also currently chairs the flagship (green growth initiative) for the province of KP in which includes the mass Afforestation ‘Billion Tree Tsunami’ project.
Speaking at the WCC which is held every four years and is considered largest collection of environmentalists in the world, attracting over 10,000 people to this year’s event in Hawaii which as successfully carved out the conservation agenda for the coming years,, including unleashing ideas such as natural capital, Bio diversity offsets and innovative conservation finance from 2002-2007. Malik Amin Aslam has s served as a member of parliament from 2004-2007, as minister of state for environment and in this capacity. He also worked as PM’s Special envoy for reform of the UN governance system.
