Water supply, sanitation regulations enforced for provision of clean drinking water

Rawalpindi—Local Government & Community Development Department Punjab has enforced Water Supply and Sanitation Regulations in the Province with the objectives to provide clean drinking water and improved sanitation system to the people. According to the Regulations the Municipal Staff would adopt all related precautionary measures besides ensuring timely maintenance and proper supervision of water reservoirs and sewerage system in their respective areas.
This was stated by the Director General Local Government and Community Development Department Punjab Shahid Nasir Raja while addressing on the occasion of Clean & Green Training Workshop for LG&CD Officers/officials on Water Supply and Sanitation Regulations and Anti Dengue Operations COP’s held at Pothohar Hall, Rawalpindi. The capacity building training session was organized by LG&CD Department with the cooperation of Unicef WASH Punjab. The event was attended by Additional Secretary LG&CD Malik Muhammad Waris, Director LG&CD Mian Najeeb Aslam, ADC Rawalpindi Arif Rahim, Deputy Secretary LG&CD Talha Hussain Faisal, Deputy Director LD&CD Muhammad Zaman Wattoo and Officers of Tehsil Municipal Administration of Rawalpindi Division. Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Dr. Waseem Akram was the guest of honour on the occasion who apprised participants about the current situation of dengue prevalence in the Province and said that according to the predictions of Metrological Department more rains expected during monsoon season. He asked Tehsil Municipal Officers to remain vigilant in their areas and do their utmost to check dengue larvae especially during rains so that it could not become an epidemic during the dengue season. Dr. Waseem was of the view that any untoward situation can be emerged if proper measurers were not adopted to control dengue. He also shared figures of previous years relating to dengue cases.
Addressing on the occasion, Shahid Nasir Raja said that Water Supply and Sanitation Regulations would enable the community to get safe drinking water and all concerned had been given detailed guidelines to ensure regular monitoring of water reservoirs and any negligence would be penalized according to the law. The Additional Secretary LG&CD Malik Muhammad Waris asked Offices and Officials of LG&CD Department to work with devotion and dedication and serve the masses honestly. He said we can save the people from water bound diseases by ensuring supply of germ free drinking water and keeping sewerage lines leakage free.
Director LG&CD Mian Najeeb Aslam said that under the directives of Secretary LG&CD, Naseem Nawaz, especial emphasis has been laid on training and capacity building of LG&CD field staff so that they could proper maintain their water supply schemes and observe the defined protocol of desalting sewerage lines.
