Waseem directs to clear route of Gujjar Nallah

Karachi—Deputy Mayor Karachi Dr Arshad Vohra has directed the Director Anti-encroachments to ensure 80 feet clearance on the route of whole Gujjar Nallah in the first phase of the project.
He also instructed the municipal services department to submit him the list of 30 nallahs and personally visit the Nehr-e-Khayyam and report the latest position.
He was chairing a meeting regarding removal of encroachments and widening of Gujjar Nullah, said a statement on Friday.
He said the depth of Gujjar Nallah should be enhanced suitable for improving the efficiency and capacity of the Nallah,
The meeting was attended by Senior Director Municipal Services Masood Alam, Director Anti Encroachments Mazhar Khan, concerned engineers and other officers.
The Director Anti Encroachments briefed the Deputy Mayor that almost 25 kilometers area has been cleared from Surjani to Liaquatabad and work on remaining three KM is presently underway.
The Engineering Department was directed to prepare the PC-1 for construction of 20 feet service road on both side of the nallah.
It was also decided in the meeting that no commercial activity and shops will be allowed alongside the roads of the Gujjar Nallah.
The Deputy Mayor also agreed on the request that existing contract for provision of necessary machinery needs to be extended for a period of two months for continuity of de-silting and removal of encroachments in Gujjar Nallah.
Meanwhile, Consul General of Japan Toshikazu Isomura called on Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhter at his office and congratulated him on assuming the charge of Mayor of Karachi here on Friday.
Talking to the Japanese CG, Waseem Akhter said Pakistan has friendly relations with Japan and many Japanese organizations taking part in the development works carried out in various cities of Pakistan.
Japanese firms have prominent role in the progress and development of Karachi, he said.
Mayor Karachi informed the Japanese CG about the demographic and economic importance of city of Karachi and the uplift projects which had been carried out to provide better civic facilities to people in Karachi.
He said we want to fulfill the important responsibility that has been assigned to us and to solve the city problems without any discrimination.
