Vehicular pollution in Punjab

Sanaullah Samad

Punjab’s Environment Protection Department (EPD) has failed to counter vehicular pollution in Punjab, where it has become a serious threat to health. The sad news is that metropolis of Lahore was declared the second most polluted city in the world. The vehicles contribute air pollution through poisonous gases including carbon mono oxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and lead. These are causing airborne diseases, which are killing thousands of people in Punjab.
The shabby auto-rickshaws, motorcycle-rickshaws, buses, trucks and other vehicles are creating more problems for the people to survive. Still EPD has failed to launch any kind of campaign for controlling vehicular pollution. I would like to request the Punjab government to make some rules and allow the police to eradicate vehicular pollution in the Province for the safety of the citizens.
