US must stay engaged with Pakistan for stamping out terrorism in region

Founder Chairman Pak-US Business Council and Chairman United Business Group Iftikhar Ali Malik on Wednesday said it is important for Pakistan and US to stay engaged together for stamping out menace of terrorism in the region besides pursuing common objectives.
Talking to media here today, the veteran trade leader Iftikhar Ali Malik said it is a matter of fact that Pakistan has always given full support to USA in the region whether it was Afghan war against Russia or US war against terrorism in Afghanistan,” adding he said that even former Secretary Hillary Clinton and other top officials of US have on and off several time acknowledged that “Pakistanis have suffered ‘extraordinary losses’ in the fight against the Taliban and other extremists groups”.
He said Pakistan is a nuclear-armed state sitting at the crossroads of a strategic region and disengaging Pakistan at this crucial time, will not serve the purpose for peace in the world.
When he was asked whether the Trump administration’s threats to cut the US aid would be lethal for Pakistan or not, Iftikhar Ali Malik made it clear that the Trump administration by maintaining threatening posture towards Islamabad is only helping Pakistan to balance its ties with Washington and tilt bit more towards Beijing and Moscow which are obviously more friendly and trustworthy and in the process achieve somewhat elusive self-reliance which is the dire need of the hour, to say the least.
He said Pakistan has its commitment for peace and stability in the region, Afghanistan in particular and both the countries should be agreed that the decades long relations between Pakistan and the USA should be further strengthened through multifaceted engagement.
Answering a query about the Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi visit to United Nations’ General Assembly, appreciating Abbasi, he said Abbasi is working very hard and handling the things in effective manner.
Iftikhar Ali Malik further suggested that during his address at UNGA, Pakistan Prime Minister should also highlight the successes achieved against terrorism and extremism. He should talk about Operation Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fasaad in his address and to tell the world how much Pakistan has offered colossal sacrifices in the war against terrorism.
