Unique endovascular disorder treated at local hospital

Staff Reporter

Islamabad—First Successful implantation of the endovascular stent graft was performed at Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital by a dedicated team of doctors and surgeons.
Speaking after procedure head of the team, eminent endo vascular surgeon Dr Naseem said the Aortic Aneurysm is caused due to the weakening in the wall of body’s largest blood vessels. If left untreated, the growing bubble would likely to burst without warning someday, causing massive bleeding, followed by shock and almost certain death. These time bombs don’t go away by themselves.
Conventional surgery to repair this aortic aneurysm is associated with lots of complications and 5pc risk of death. The new less invasive surgery called EndoVascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) has really changed the management of these patients. In this new technique, the repair is done with specially designed polyester hose which is loaded into a tiny sleeve and snaked to the aneurysm through a blood vessel in the leg.
Quaid-e-Azam international hospital has become the pioneer institution for this kind of less invasive surgery. It can now offer this less invasive surgery for any kind of aortic pathology where possible. The hospital has a team of qualified vascular and endovascular surgeon, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologist, trained radiologist, anesthetist and fully equipped theatres and vascular lab.
Dr. Shaukat Ali Bangash founder & CEO of Quaid e Azam International Hospital congratulated Dr. Naseem Haider & his team for performing such a unique procedure in QIH.
