Unhappy-land knows no law

Hashim Abro

The noble concept of “Reward and Punishment” has no real meaning in our Pakistan society. There is no one to guide our people to live from their heart keeping in mind the glorious concept of reward and punishment. There is no reward or punishment in the public sector organizations. There are people all around us doing amazing things in this society for the welfare of the state and society but no reward for them. But the truth is, if there is any reward that is for touts, sycophants, fraudulent and not fully “qualified” people for the post. Reward in terms of promotion and advances such as House Building Advance (HBA) and Motor Car Advance, among others, is for those who whisper negative things in the ears of bosses.
There is no punishment for evil doers in this society. If it exists anywhere then the process is ruthlessly tedious and slow. A vast majority of people believe that there is no rule of law but a rule by chosen or imposed few in this society. That’s why, this society has become unhappy land for many. To borrow some words from Shakespeare’s Macbeth: Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player / That struts and frets his hour upon the stage / And then is heard no more: it is a tale / Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, / Signifying nothing.
