Undertrial prisoner jumps off Karachi court building in escape bid

Karachi—An undertrial prisoner on Wednesday jumped off from the second floor of a city court building in Karachi in an attempt to escape, a police official confirmed.
The suspect, identified as Hashim, held in a narcotics case received serious injuries as he attempted to escape from the court by jumping off the second floor. He has been shifted to Civil Hospital.
Hashim was to be presented before court by police officers to seek his remand. In August last year, an undertrial prisoner accused of possessing explosives had escaped from the premises of the Anti-Terrorism Court-IX (ATC) in Karachi.
According to reports, the undertrial prisoner, Tanveer alias Jambu, who was under custody of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was brought to the ATC from the Karachi Central Jail for hearing in his case. The accused managed to remove his handcuffs before fleeing the court premises, sources said.
