Two Chinese among 4 killed in Tarbela Dam shuttering collapse

Tarbela—Four people including two Chinese engineers and two Pakistani nationals were killed as the shuttering of the Tarbela Dam collapsed in Haripur, police said Sunday.
The shuttering collapsed during construction work on the Tarbela Dam extension project, Station House Officer Topi Sultan Mehmood Khan said.
Four other people, including two Chinese nationals, were injured during the incident.
The accident occurred when some Chinese and local engineers associated with Sinohydro company were engrossed in construction work on Power House No 4, also called as Extension 4, when the wooden structure they had erected for support collapsed, burying nine of them under the rubble.
Rescue workers soon reached the site, evacuated the injured and shifted them to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad. Chances of survival of the two workers who are still under the debris are slim, added the sources.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has conveyed his condolences to the families of the Chinese engineers who lost their lives. The prime minister directed the authorities concerned to make quick arrangements to send the bodies of the deceased engineers to their home country and ensure the well-being and safety of Chinese engineers working on the project.
