A truck stroked Pakistan Express at an unmanned level crossing no 23 between Shorkot and Chutiana on Friday. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Railways, no causality was reported. Though the line was cleared later but it resulted in detention of Pakistan Express at Shorkot for 2 hours and 35 minutes and detention of Karakoram Express for 20 minutes.
This accident happened due to negligence of truck driver, the statement said. It is important to mention that unmanned level crossings are not responsibility of Railway Authorities. In order to ensure the safety of trains operations, Pakistan Railways in 2013, had conducted a joint venture surveys for the up-gradations of existing unmanned level crossing in collaboration with Provincial and Local District Governments.
As a result vulnerable unmanned level crossings were identified in all provinces. In Punjab about 75 unmanned level crossings have been upgraded to manned by Railway Authorities now. The Pakistan Railways was not responsible for Pakistan Express collision with a corn loaded truck near Shorkot. A spokesman of PR explains here on Friday that in accident happened early in the morning at an unmanned level crossing, no casualty or injury occurred, however,a locomotive of the train was damaged slightly in accident. He said Railway traffic on the section was opened one hour after accident as relief train and locomotive had been sent to the accident point which cleared track immediately.
He said that accident was happened due to negligence of truck driver who tried to cross the crossing when train was close.—Agencies
