Transparent policy devised for wheat procurement

Lahore—Secretary Food Punjab Dr Pervaiz Ahmed Khan said on Tuesday that the provincial government had devised a comprehensive policy for purchasing wheat in a transparent manner and providing best facilities to the growers. Talking to APP, he said that the policy was devised in consultation with the farmers’ organisations adding that special teams had been inspecting arrangements at the procurement centres throughout the province and monitoring issuance of gunny bags to farmers.
The secretary said that teams were also meeting farmers to address their complaints on the spot. He said that measures had been taken for welfare and betterment of the farming community. He said that four million tonnes wheat purchase target had been set by the government and for this Rs 130 billion had been allocated.
Answering a question, he said that Punjab Chief Minister’s Rs 100 billion Kissan Package would bring prosperity to farmers and help development of agriculture sector. He said that the government was committed to safeguard rights of farmers and no one would be allowed to exploit the farming community during wheat procurement campaign. “For the convenience of the growers, government officials are supervising the procurement process,” he added.
He said that the record and process of issuance of gunny bags was being monitored vigilantly and the staff had been directed to perform their duties efficiently. “All arrangements will remain in place and the best service delivery will be ensured till completion of the wheat purchase process,” he added. The secretary said that farmers had expressed their satisfaction over the arrangements and appreciated the agriculture-friendly policies of the Punjab Chief Minister.—APP
