Training workshop for security guards

Islamabad—Over fifty security guards of Allama Iqbal Open University at a workshop were sensitized of the prevailing laws and practices that they are required to follow during performance of their official duties. It was the first-ever workshop held here at the University’s main campus to promote their capacity-building.
It was also part of on-going series of professional development of the university’s staff. The workshop was arranged by the Department of Gender and Women Studies.
Speaking at the certificate-distribution ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said they must adopt civilized behaviour while dealing with various segments of society, particularly women and aged people.
He said they must uphold basic human norms and Islamic values while performing their security duties.
He also spoke about importance of their job that is very sensitive in nature. He assured their welfare and proper care will always remain his top priority.
Chairman department of Gender and Women Studies Dr. Riffat Haque briefed the security guards about the protection against harassment of women at workplace, hoping they will abide by such laws relating to females.—APP
