The nation wins

DESPITE efforts to scuttle the mega final of Pakistan Super League in Lahore and doomsday scenario presented by some local political elements, it was the nation which finally came out victorious by ensuring peaceful and smooth conduct of final fixture between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi. For the cricket fans who thronged the Gaddafi stadium or who glued to their TV sets, it was not a matter of who wins or loses but actually with their firm conviction, they showed to the world that the country is capable to again host international matches.
On this occasion, it will be unfair not to recognise services of security services, Punjab government and PSL management for making foolproof arrangements for the mega event, which not only promoted country’s soft image but in fact will go a long way in reviving international cricket on domestic grounds. It was the first mega event at the Gaddafi Stadium following the 1996 world cup final and this is the reason that not only Lahorites but people from other cities and towns of the country swarmed the stadium to witness the performance of their star players. This was also a lucid message to the enemy and terrorists that come what may, the Pakistani nation will never allow the fear overpower their passion for the game. We expect that after seeing the final of PSL, the international teams will reconsider their decision and return to Pakistani grounds to provide entertainment to cricket enthusiasts here. Just like the first edition, the second edition of PSL undoubtedly was a complete success and credit for this also goes to the franchises that invested their time and money to make this happen. We hope this march towards excellence will continue and the entire Pakistani nation is now looking towards the next PSL tournament taking place in different cities of Pakistan. Just like Lahore final, we can do this with unison and firm resolve.
