The security forces gunned down as many as ten alleged terrorists in various areas in Swabi on Wednesday as the operation Radd ul Fasaad is progressing effectively. Unconfirmed reports say two soldiers also sustained wounds during the fresh clashes. This has taken the number of terrorists killed during two days of Operation in Swabi to 15.
The security forces have intensified their operation in the back drop of deadly clash between the insurgents and the security forces in Swabi on Tuesday that had left two soldiers including a captain of the Pakistan army martyred and five trouble makers dead. The sources said the Security forces Wednesday expanded the search and net operation in various parts of the Swabi district and resultantly clashed with a group of miscreants at Baja Baam Khel and Maini areas as the shootout left at least ten insurgents dead while of them managed to flee.
“At least ten terrorists were killed during a clash erupted in security forces’ operations conducted in Baja Baam Khel Bypass and Maini areas of Swabi district on Wednesday”.
Security sources said adding three terrorists escaped from the scene while the search operation was underway to round them up. The security sources confirmed that operation Raddul Fasaad was extended to other areas of the district following clash between security forces and terrorists on Tuesday.
“The army and police personnel carried out a joint operation in Swabi’s Baja Bypass area on a tip-off and raided the locality where terrorists were believed to be hiding”. A senior Police official said adding the arrival of the law enforcement agencies to the area ensued gun battle, and in the exchange of fire ten militants were killed. He however, said the detailed statement would be released by the ISPR.
Some reports say that two army soldiers also sustained injuries during the operation. All the dead bodies were shifted to a local hospital in Swabi and the identification process was in progress yet it was yet to be ascertained as to which group the killed miscreants belonged to.
The Police in a statement said as many as 10 corpses were found in Ajmair Pahar area of district Swabi on Wednesday adding the dead bodies were shifted to District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) for identification. It said all the people were shot dead and did not seem to be local. The corpses, sources said were found from Baja area some ten kilometers from the city Wednesday morning.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) the military offensive continues the country with full force and the security forces have killed at least 23 terrorists in countrywide actions in 15 days, since the beginning of operation Radd-ul-Fasaad on February 22 last.
“The army carried out more than 200 ‘combing operations’ and eliminated 23 terrorists, arresting over 700 suspects”. ISPR said adding “ the terrorists were killed in Punjab, Bannu and Swabi.”
