Ten killed in Panjgur, Khairpur accidents

Panjgur, Khairpur—At least ten people have been died and 24 more were injured in two separate traffic accidents in Panjgur and Khairpur on Sunday.
According to the details at least eight people were killed and 15 injured when a bus fell into a ravine near Panjgur. The bus was travelling near from Karachi to Panjgur when the incident took place near the town of Naag in Kharan district, Balochistan.
Rescue teams immediately rushed the spot and helped shifting the injured and the bodies to nearby hospital.
Meanwhile in another accident at least two persons died and nine others were injured in collision of two passenger buses on Sunday.
Police said that two over speeding passenger buses collided, while attempting to overtake each other near Ranipur area in district Khairpur.
One passenger died on the spot, while 10 others sustained wounds who were shifted to local hospital where another succumbed to his injuries raising death toll to two.
The country has witnessed many deadly road accidents in recent years. In January 2014, a truck slammed into a bus bringing schoolchildren home from an outing in Sindh, killing at least 17 pupils and three adults.
“It was a head-on collision when the truck slammed into the school van on a single track dirt road. Apparently, speeding and recklessness resulted in the accident,” police had said.
Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving. According to police records, more than 60,000 people died in road accidents over the last 11 years.—SABAH
