Technical education vital to meet country’s requirements: Ashfaq

Lahore—Provincial Minister for Labour & Human Resource,Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has stressed upon the importance of technical & vocational education,besides training for meaningful linkages between public and private sectors to meet requirements of local/international labour markets. He said that under Punjab Skills Development Strategy- 2018,annual targets of imparting skill training to 5.5 million youth of the province were being achieved through comprehensive efforts.
It was informed in a meeting of steering committee chaired by Minister for Labour & Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar in Committee Room,here on Thursday. The meeting was briefed that in the year 2005-16, TEVTA imparted demand driven skill training to more than 173,246 youth,Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) imparted skill training to 134,762, whereas Punjab Skill Development Fund gave training to 56,187 persons to meet this target. PVTC also imparted skill training to 4,121 persons in collaboration with School Education Department Punjab in the evening classes. Technical and Vocational Training Institute of Private sectors imparted modern skills to more than 33,921 persons as per the programme. Labour minister said that capacity-building and good governance system,revamping of curricula were introduced in the vocational training institutes of the province,adding these measures would ensure job placement for all the skilled graduates in the homeland as well as Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC) countries.
Parliamentary Secretary for Information & Culture Rana Muhammad Arshad,Secretary Industries Nabeel Javed,Project Director Skills Development Programme Ameer Khatak,heads of different technical training institutes and representatives of provincial departments attended the meeting.
