Sun says he felt being in family while in Pakistan
President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday spoke high of the outgoing ambassador of China Mr Sun Weidong and his spouse Diana Bao and lauded their valuable services in cementing the ties of friendship between Pakistan and China. The president said this at a ceremony to award the outgoing envoy of China the top civil award of Pakistan, ‘Hilal-e-Pakistan.’ The award was given at a graceful ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr and the award was given in recognition of Mr Sun Weidong’s services for strengthening bond of lasting friendship between the two countries. Ministers, secretaries and top officials of the Foreign Office and the Embassy of China including Madam Diana Bao, spouse of the outgoing ambassador, Federal Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Tehmina Janjua were present on the occasion. President Mamnoon said it also gave to the credit of the untiring efforts of the outgoing Ambassador that relations between Pakistan and China have expanded to new dynamic areas of cooperation. This period especially the one during the diplomatic tenure of Sun Weidong will be remembered as ‘golden age of relations between Pakistan and China,” said President Mamnoon. President Mamnoon also spoke on the subject of strong ties of friendship between Pakistan and China and remarked the bond of friendship between the two countries was above the conventional norms of diplomacy. “We are friends for all seasons, all times and climes,” said the president. About the ambassador he said Sun Weidong and his wife both have done tremendous work in enhancing people-to-people ties between the two countries. Expressing his gratitude on the occasion and terming his diplomatic career in Pakistan an unforgettable period, Sun Weidong said the award was an honour for him. Ambassador Sun Weidong has befriended many Pakistanis and has been quite instrumental in sending a large number of Pakistani students to Chinese universities on scholarships. It is for the first time that during Ambassador Sun Weidong’s three-year diplomatic career, that there has been a remarkable increase in teachers and students level’s visits to China. Chinese embassy also sent about 160 female teachers to China in the last two years and wife of Chinese ambassador Diana Bao had been equally active and instrumental in arranging the educational trips. Statistics show that the highest number foreign students, studying in China on scholarships are from Pakistan. This record progress was witnessed during the last four years with the launching of China-Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC). This was also the result of vigorous efforts on the part of Chinese embassy in Islamabad. Ambassador Sun Weidong termed China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) as the highlight of his three-year diplomatic career. The project was initiated and inaugurated during his tenure in Pakistan. “I am leaving Pakistan with a sense of profound satisfaction and my days here were like days spent in family ,” said Ambassador Sun Weidong.
