140 Pakistani students to study in China’s top ranking universities

Chinese government has awarded more than 140 scholarships to Pakistani students for the year 2018-19 providing them an opportunity to obtain higher education from Bachelor’s to PhD level from top-ranking Chinese universities. In this regard, a scholarship-awarding ceremony held at the Chinese Embassy on Thursday in which Ambassador of China Yao Jing, Deputy Head of Mission (DHM) Lijian Zhao, Higher Education Commission (HEC) Executive Director Prof Dr Arshad Khan and a senior official of the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ministry participated. They gave away admission letters and wished them best of luck for their stay and studies in China. HEC Consultant on CPEC, Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Asghar and officials of the HEC and IPC ministry were also present on the occasion.
It was told during the event that out of a total of 148 scholarships, more than thirty (30) are granted to female students. These students were given scholarships on the recommendations of Ministry of Inter-provincial Coordination (IPC) and Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The China-bound scholarship holders will continue their higher studies in a vast range of subjects like Computer Science and Technology, Business Administration, Finance, Physical Chemistry, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Broadcasting Communication, International Law, Journalism and others, covering bachelor and masters programmes, PHD and advanced training programmes.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing attended the ceremony at the last minute as he was committed elsewhere but he made it a point to come and greet the scholarship winning students. The ambassador while congratulating the winners for the Chinese government scholarship for 2018-2019 academic year, hoped that they would act as goodwill ambassadors of their country while studying in China. You should serve as a bridge to further strengthen the brotherly relationship, he said adding, “Whatsoever you learn in China would prove to be very useful for future development of Pakistan.”
Earlier, DHM Lijian Zhao said Chinese government scholarship programme was a government-to-government undertaking aimed at benefiting all the regions and the students of Pakistan. The students are from all over Pakistan like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar, but also from other cities and towns were selected. He thanked the ministry of IPC and HEC for cooperation.
He congratulated the selected students saying, “You are the lucky ones who have been selected for studying in China. He asked them to focus on studies and befriend the culture and people of that country.”
He said Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) had said, “Seek knowledge even if you have to go as far as China. You are lucky as you are following the sayings of Holy Prophet (PBUH).” He
Deputy Chief of Mission said all the expenses of their studies, boarding etc would be borne by the Chinese government. He said presently, various universities, local government and state owned companies are also offering the scholarships to Pakistani students. He said at present, many students are getting education in various disciplines.
Executive Director HEC Arshad Ali and representative of the IPC congratulated the students and urged them to present true image of the country. “You will be taken as representative rather ambassador of your country so you must take care of your country’s image and bring laurels to your homeland by your good behavior and excellent results,” they said.
