Strong academia-industry linkages, knowledge based economy stressed

Faisalabad—Strong academia-industry linkages, knowledge based economy and innovative thinking are imperative to address the issues of industry, common man, farmers and other stakeholders that will help alleviate poverty in the country.
This was stated by University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while addressing a workshop on “Food Safety Internship and Supplier Development Programme” at the National Institute of Food Science Technology (NIFST), University of Agriculture Faisalabad in collaboration with Pepsico.
The Vice Chancellor said, “By sharpening the skills of students with practical knowledge, we can compete with the rest of the world.”He also called for adopting food safety measures to overcome the food hazards and ensuring safe health for the public. He said establishment of Punjab Food Authority was a hallmark step which was bringing tangible results regarding providing safe and hygienic food to the people.
Dean, Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Food Sciences Prof. Dr. Masood Sadiq Butt said quality education and skilled manpower were essential to make development. He said, “If we ensure healthy food and lifestyle, the issue of increasing ailment and malnutrition can be addressed effectively.”
Director General NIFST Dr Tahir Zahoor said that the academia-industry linkages would bring tangible results to address the various problem. Pepsico official Izhar Awan also spoke on the occasion. Certificates of internship were also distributed among 60 students from six universities.—APP
