Sri Lankans win hearts

THOUGHT it was Pakistan which like on the one day internationals also sealed three match T-twenty series against the lions, yet it would not be exaggeration to state that the hearts of Pakistani cricket lovers were actually won by the Sri Lankan team members by visiting once again the Lahore Gaddafi Stadium – the site where it was attacked by terrorists about eight years ago. Despite strict security measures, the enthusiastic fans thronged the stadium supporting and cheering up for both the teams.
In fact the Sri Lankan team has always supported and extended practical help for the return of international cricket to Pakistan and the visit of the team for the T-20 match is once again a clear manifestation of it- a goodwill gesture that the Pakistanis will never forget. The visit of World-XI quite recently and the final of PSL that was conducted last year in Lahore give credence to our claim that the overall security situation stands improved in the country due to the sacrifices rendered by our security personnel and the nation in the prolonged war. We expect that other international teams will also review their decisions and come to the cricket crazy country to play cricket and other games and enjoy the hospitality of our people. Seeing the star players in action on the domestic grounds will go a long way in polishing our young and budding talent. The PCB also deserves all the applause for the efforts put in by it over the last two years to rebuild the national team and bring the international players to the country. Recent visit of World XI and now that of the Sri Lanka are undoubtedly its major successes and whilst the West Indies is also scheduled to visit Pakistan very soon for a full fledged series, we expect this will transmit a positive message to other cricket playing nations as well that the country is safe enough to play. In this situation when international cricket is returning, we need not to be complacent in our anti-terror campaign and rather double our efforts to cleanse the country once and for all of this menace which hurt the country in so many ways.
