Multan—Internet sensation Qandeel Baloch was murdered by her brother in Multan on Saturday. “Qandeel was killed by her brother over honour in Green Town area,” the area’s Regional Police Officer Sultan Azam told media. “It appears that she was strangled to death.
The 25-year-old social media starlet’s parents, who have been taken into custody, confirmed she was strangled to death last night. “Wasim, 30, killed her last night following an argument,” her parents said. However, they found her body in the morning.
“The brother was also there last night and the family told us he strangled her to death,” Azhar Akram, another senior police official in Multan told AFP, confirming that officials suspected an honour killing.
Police directed immediate arrest of Qandeel’s brother who is now on the run.
Police on Saturday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against two persons in Qandeel Baloch murder case, it has been learnt.
Police registered the case under Sections 302 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code which deal with “punishment for willful murder”.
It states that Aslam allegedly provoked Waseem to kill Qandeel as she reportedly “brought disrepute to the family”. Aslam is currently serving in the army as a Naib Subedar, reads the FIR.
The complainant further said that his sons killed Qandeel for her money. Qandeel’s brother had been reportedly threatening her to stop posting photos and videos on Facebook, police said, adding that her brother fled the scene after killing Qandeel.
Police added that Qandeel was in Multan for one week and the forensic experts are examining her corpse to find whether she was poisoned or not.
Meanwhile, Mufti Abdul Qawi, a former member of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, has been nominated in an FIR regarding Qandeel’s murder.
