Slain FIA prosecutor’s son moves IHC for speedy trial

Islamabad—Assassinated public prosecutor of the Federal Investigation Agency Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali’s son Ch Nisar Advocate has approached the Islamabad High Court to expedite the proceedings of the murder case of his father.
Chaudhry Muhammad Nisar Ali who is son of the former prosecutor has moved the court in person and cited judge of Special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) No. 1 as respondent. In his petition, Nisar has prayed to the court to issue directions to the judge of ATC to conduct the trial of his father’s murder case against the accused persons on day-to-day basis.
He further requested the court to direct the respondent to conclude the matter within a parameter of time issued by this court in the best interest of justice. Chaudhry Nisar stated in his petition that his father Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali was murdered on May 3, 2013 when he along with FC guard was on his way to appear before the ATC Rawalpindi No 1 regarding the trial of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case.
While he was passing by the Post Office of G-9/4 close to his house, a number of assailants started indiscriminate fire on him as a result of which Ch Zulfiqar Ali could not control his vehicle which firstly ran over a woman going on footpath and then hit the CDA Environment office. He said that Farman Ali gunman of his father also resorted to firing as result of which one of the assailants was injured but his accomplices took him away in a taxi.
Nisar said that his father was shifted to PIMS hospital where he succumbed to injuries and passed away. He said that more than three years have passed but the murder case of his father could not be decided. Therefore, he requested the court to issue directions to ATC judge to conduct hearing of his fathers’ murder case on daily basis.
