Colombo —Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged his country’s support for Sri Lanka to improve the livelihood of its people and will continue to develop the island’s infrastructure facilities including ports and highways.
The Chinese foreign minister was speaking at a media conference after meeting the Sri Lanka Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera at the Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry.
The Chinese foreign minister also mentioned about plans for constructing a hospital specialising in treating kidney diseases and the inclusion of Sri Lanka in China’s 21st Century Maritime Silk Route.
Sri Lankan Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera welcoming his Chinese counterpart stressed that his visit will further enhance warm and friendly bilateral relations between the two countries. Samaraweera said that the Sri Lanka-China friendship will pave the way for increased economic cooperation. Regarding China’s importance in developing both Colombo and the country as a whole Sri Lanka foreign affairs minister extended Sri Lanka’s appreciation for Chinese assistance in construction and other mega projects in the island.
