Shahbaz meets British HC
Lahore—British High Commissioner Thomas Drew met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, here Friday and discussed matters of mutual interest, relations between Pakistan and Britain and promotion of cooperation in different sectors.
British High Commissioner congratulated Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the recovery of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif after successful operation. He also congratulated Shehbaz Sharif for allocating huge resources for education, health, water supply and social sectors in the budget of new financial year. Talking to British High Commissioner, Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan and Britain are strong partners in the efforts for peace, progress and prosperity and the relations between the two countries are strengthening with the passage of time. He said that bilateral ties between Pakistan and Britain have been given a new dimension in the tenure of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Britain is fully cooperating with Pakistan in various sectors.
The Chief Minister said that skill development programme is being successfully implemented in Punjab with the cooperation of British Department for International Development (DFID) while school reforms roadmap is also yielding encouraging results.
Likewise, he said, a big programme is being implemented in the province with the cooperation of Britain for providing quality healthcare facilities to the masses. Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan Muslim League-N government, led by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, is introducing far-reaching reforms in economic sector and confidence of foreign investors has been restored due to solid steps taken by the government.
The Chief Minister stressed the need for promoting trade and economic ties between Pakistan and Britain and said that there should be exchange of trade delegations between the two countries. He said that Pakistan has rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the war against terrorism and as a result of Operation Zarb-e-Azab peace has been restored in the country. He said that the whole nation is united to make Pakistan a haven of peace. He said that there is no room for terrorism and extremism in the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam and the promise of giving a safe country to the future generations will be fulfilled.
British High Commissioner Thomas Drew, while speaking on the occasion, said that Britain attaches special importance to its relations with Pakistan.
He said that Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ensured proper and transparent utilization of British taxpayers’ money. He said that Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif is implementing a splendid programme of public welfare and has taken positive steps for this purpose.
