Sindh Judicial Academy

As a Judicial Training Academy, the Sindh Judicial Academy, Karachi, stands out in the country. It is one of the oldest judicial training institutes in this country and perhaps in South Asia. The Academy is mandated to transform the quality of administration of justice in the province. It, therefore, continues to design its programmes/activities in line with the modern-day challenges and emerging legal frameworks and policies. It is always a retired judge of superior courts, Supreme Court of Pakistan or High Court of Sindh has been the Director General of the Academy and the faculty comprises passionate teachers and trainers, not the run of the mill.
Whenever I have had an opportunity to sit and discuss matters of mutual interest with the judicial officers from Sindh judiciary trained by the SJA, I always find them singularly free from presumption or vanity. Many a time, I have had an academic and intellectual discourse with the Faculty members in Sindh Judicial Academy who take a broader outlook of their responsibilities towards their trainees. They consider that their duty was not simply to train young judicial officers, but to prepare them for the complex personal, professional problems and emerging challenges in the judicial profession.
A new light was beginning to gleam in the outskirts of the SJA horizon a light which would definitely soon deepen into the beacon light of a new under the visionary leadership of Mr. Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh, Honourable Chief Justice, High Court of Sindh and its incumbent honourable Director General. The day is not far when this unique judicial academy would be recognized as primus inter pares among the training academies around the globe.
