Sindh Governor briefed about water supply facilities

Governor of Sindh, Imran Ismail here Wednesday was briefed about water supply schemes in Karachi along with the measures being adopted to streamline waste water and sewage disposal mechanism in the metropolis.
Managing Director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB), Khalid Mahmood informed the incumbent governor that there were 150 pumping station across the city with more than 30,000 valves used to manage water supply to the citizens.
The KWSB chief said the board was also providing water to certain parts of Thatta located some 100 Kms away from the city.It was also mentioned that treatment plant managed by the board was presently treating 70MGD waste water that is consequently released into the sea.
Efforts were said to be underway to enhance capacity of the treatment plant so as to treat 480 MGD water.
Sindh Governor on the occasion expressed his concern that no less than 400 MGD waste water, mainly contaminated, was being directly released into the sea with only 70 MGD water that is safe enough to be thrown into marine waters.
He said easy availability of safe potable water to the citizens was the top priority of the government and all steps would be taken to facilitate early completion of K-IV—APP
