In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama and Shopian districts of south Kashmir, today, against the killing of three youth by Indian troops, yesterday.
All shops and business establishments were closed while traffic was off the roads in the two districts. Educational institutions were already closed due to the weekly off.
Among three martyrs, the troops had killed Waseem Shah and Nasir Ahmad during a cordon and search operation at Litter in Pulwama district. They had also destroyed a house in the operation. The killing of the youth had sparked anti-India protests in the area. The third one, indentified as, Gulzar Ahmad Mir was killed and many others were injured when troops had opened fire on the protesters in the area.
Normal life was paralyzed in Uri, Lagama and Boniyar areas of Baramulla district due to strike against the incidents of braid chopping. Clashes erupted in Sopore after a woman’s braid was chopped off at Khushal Mattoo in the town, today. The braid choppers barged into the house of the victim woman and cut her hair. Traders in Pampore have called for shutdown in the town, tomorrow, against the incidents.
It is worth mentioning here that in the latest move, orchestrated by Indian army to distract Kashmiris’ attention from the Kashmir cause and harass them at least 350 cases of braid-chopping have been reported in the territory, so far. Troops in disguise use chemicals to make women unconscious and cut their braids.
Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Instead of ensuring safety, the authorities had conceived their devilish tricks like operation Catch and Kill, Operation Ghost and now braid chopping like horrible operations to break the Kashmiris’ resolve for freedom. However, he hoped that the people would defeat all these nefarious designs with unity and discipline. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference while commenting on a recent statement of Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that India should realize that fact that it had been illegally occupying Jammu and Kashmir. The APHC said that Rajnath’s statement was an acknowledgment that Jammu and Kashmir was not part of India. Addressing a gathering in Surat, Rajnath Singh had said that Sardar Patel got Junagad and Hyderabad to become part of India and had Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru not stopped him from also deciding the fate of Kashmir, then the Kashmir issue would not have been before India, today.
On the other hand, senior National Conference leader Muhammad Akbar Lone in a statement in Srinagar conceded that Syed Ali Gilani was the real ruler of Kashmir.—KMS
