Shopian shuts on 5th anniversary of civilian killings


A near-total shutdown was observed in south Kashmir’s Shopian townon Friday, marking the fifth anniversary of the four civilians killed on the edge of town in 2013.
Since early Friday morning, shops and business establishments remained closed in the town while vehicular traffic was sparse on the roads.
The killings of three local civilians and a non-local labourer took place in Gagren area of the town on September 7, 2013. The slain were identified as Tariq Ahmd Mir, Tawseef Ahmad Mohammad Yousuf and Abdullah Haroon.
A one-man commission constituted to probe the killings held CRPF troopers responsible for shooting the three unarmed civilians dead.—GK
