Shireen Mazari files appeal against IHC single bench decision

‘Sexist remarks by Khwaja Asif should not go unnoticed’

Zubair Qureshi

Islamabad—Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) central information secretary Dr Shireen Mazari has filed an intra court appeal (ICA) in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking nullification of the IHC single bench order that had dismissed her petition against Khwaja Asif for passing derogatory remarks against her in the Parliament.
Dr Shireen Mazari in her appeal has urged the court to reinterpret Article 69 of the Constitution that imposes a bar on constitutional courts to question validity of the parliamentary proceeding. Mazari through her counsel Shoaib Razzaq advocate argues that the said interpretation of the Article 69 is inconsistent with the issues related to fundamental rights, defamation and laws against harassment of women at work place. The petitioner has cited Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and federal ministers Khwaja Asif, Zahid Hamidand Sheikh Aftab Ahmed as respondents.
