Calling for early merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the chief of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and former Chief Minister of the province Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao Sunday castigated those “opposing the merger of FATA for political points scoring.
“The future of the FATA and its merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must not be put on the back-burner just to score political points”, the former interior minister stressed while addressing a press conference in Peshawar after holding a meeting with the FATA youth Jirga.
The QWP chief emphasized that the general polls must be held in time as the nation could not afford the delay in the forthcoming elections and those at the helm of affairs must ensure the holding of elections as per the schedule. He also warned of the consequences if the polls were delayed under any pretext About the proposed merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Aftab Sherpao said the tribal folk that is the real stake holder was in favor of merger of their region with the KP and the delay in the FATA reforms was inexplicable.
Referring to the two political parties that are opposing the merger of the FATA, the QWP chief said he was even ready to hold talks with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Secretary General Maulana Fazl ur Rehman as well Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party to convince them give up their opposition. He said the future of the FATA people must not fall prey to politics.
